Experience / Training: I have been in private practice as a licensed therapist seeing both individuals and couples since 1984. My experience has included long-term groups for women in transition (16 years) and women survivors of incest (6 years). I have also received advanced training in both EMDR and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples.
Professional Interests:
The basis of my work is providing a supportive and non-judgmental setting for individuals and couples to explore and address issues which are causing distress.
In my work with couples, I focus on helping couples let go of negative cycles like withdrawal, criticism, and blame. I collaborate with both partners to create safe emotional engagement in order to promote a secure bond. Often, this means helping partners heal from past relationship injuries. As trust grows, I help couples create a nourishing partnership which allows for independence, mutual support, and enhanced sexual intimacy.
In my work with individuals, I bring experience working with a variety of issues:
- Exploring patterns that get in the way of achieving life goals
- Moving beyond anxiety and depression
- Finding direction and vitality after ending a relationship
- Addressing parenting concerns
- Healing from childhood trauma
- Enhancing self-esteem
- Preparing for birth or adoption
- Managing the important transition of leaving home
