The Therapy Network: Who We Are and What We Value
Who We Are:
The Therapy Network was established in 1982 as a non-profit organization committed to provide quality psychotherapy referrals and community education about mental health issues. We serve areas of the East Bay, San Francisco and Marin County. Our therapists are licensed clinicians who represent a spectrum of therapeutic approaches and clinical experience.
We are currently addressing the changing environment in the mental health field. As access to mental health services has been curtailed and treatment decisions have shifted away from clients and their therapists to managed care companies, Therapy Network members feel a need to speak out more actively about the healing effects of psychotherapy and about the factors critical to quality treatment.
As an organization, the Therapy Network is committed to diversity, open dialogue and self-reflection. We value collaborative principles of cooperation and shared responsibility. As individual practitioners, we maintain separate, confidential private practices which are not in association with each other.
What We Value:
We see psychotherapy as an important health care service for:
- resolving personal or relational problems
- healing emotional pain and trauma
- managing stress and chronic pain
- enhancing self-esteem, interpersonal skills and the capacity to enjoy life
We believe consumers have the right to:
- inform themselves about available options
- choose their therapist based on individual need and personal "fit"
- know the limits of confidentiality when managed care is involved
We understand that effective psychotherapy depends on:
- establishing a relationship of trust between client and therapist
- securing the privacy of client communication
- fostering mutual decision making between client and therapist regarding type and length of treatment
We offer the community information regarding:
- the nature and benefits of psychotherapy
- services available through the Network
- services offered by individual member clinicians
- useful considerations when choosing a therapist
